Ruby Island Water Taxi

A little piece of local history!

Ruby Island is a small island close to the Wanaka township. During the 1920s/30s a ferry carried passengers to the island which boasted tearooms and a dance floor. Dances were held every Saturday night on the covered dance floor. Although the foundations from the old dance floor remain, today the island is a quieter place. Its garden-like setting and close proximity to the town attract kayakers and boaties to stroll around the island. It's also a great place for a picnic. 

Enjoy your boat ride in the bay out this lovely island while listening to the great stories of its history. Once on the island you can skip stones, go for a walk around the island and maybe have a wee dance on the remains of the dancefloor or just simply enjoy the view. Feel free to bring a picnic. 

The trip will be around 1-1.5 hour. But feel free to contact us if you wish to stay longer. 

Kids go free!* 1 5-15 year old per adult gets to come for free.
